Rental Agreement
This Rental Agreement (the "Agreement") is between ConnectedKiwi Ltd ("ConnectedKiwi", "we", "us") and the person named on the booking ("you", the "Renter"). By ticking the acceptance box during checkout and completing payment, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by this Agreement. Your acceptance is recorded with your booking and has the same effect as a signature.
Key terms at a glance
- Rental rate: NZ$50 per day, plus a flat NZ$50 shipping fee (covers delivery and return).
- Security bond: NZ$500, held against damage, loss, or unpaid fees.
- Late return: NZ$100 per day for equipment kept past the rental end date without our prior approval.
- Data: unlimited — no data caps imposed by ConnectedKiwi.
1. The Equipment
The rental includes the following items (together, the "Equipment"):
- Starlink Mini dish with integrated Wi-Fi router;
- Power adapter and cabling;
- Li-ion battery pack;
- Carry case / shipping packaging; and
- A pre-paid return courier label.
The Equipment remains the property of ConnectedKiwi at all times. You must not sell, sublease, lend for reward, pledge, or otherwise part with possession of the Equipment, and you must not remove or obscure any serial numbers or identification labels.
2. Rental period
The rental period runs from the start date to the end date selected in your booking (both inclusive). You must dispatch the Equipment for return, using the pre-paid label and original packaging, no later than the end date of your rental. Once it is lodged with the courier on or before that date, you are not responsible for courier transit time.
3. Fees and payment
The rental fee is NZ$50 per day plus a flat NZ$50 shipping fee per booking, payable in full at the time of booking. All amounts are in New Zealand dollars and include GST where applicable. Extensions requested during the rental are billed at the same daily rate and are subject to availability — see clause 5.
4. Security bond (damage deposit)
- A security bond of NZ$500 applies to every rental.
- We may pre-authorise or charge the bond to the payment card used at checkout before the Equipment is dispatched. By entering this Agreement you authorise us to charge that card for the bond and for any amounts properly payable under this Agreement (damage, loss, late-return fees, or missing items).
- The bond (or its unused balance) is released or refunded within 5 working days of the Equipment being returned and inspected.
- The bond is not a limit on your liability. If damage, loss, or fees exceed the bond, you must pay the difference on demand.
5. Late return and extensions
- If you wish to keep the Equipment beyond your booked end date, you must request an extension by email at least 48 hours before the end date. Extensions are subject to availability and are charged at the standard NZ$50/day rate.
- If you keep the Equipment past the end date without our written approval, a holdover fee of NZ$100 per day (or part day) applies until the Equipment is lodged with the courier for return.
- If the Equipment has not been dispatched within 14 days of the end date and we have been unable to arrange its return with you, it will be treated as lost and the full replacement cost (clause 8) becomes payable, in addition to accrued holdover fees.
6. Data usage
- Data usage during your rental is unlimited — ConnectedKiwi does not impose data caps or overage charges.
- Service is provided over the Starlink network and remains subject to Starlink's own fair-use and acceptable-use policies, which may prioritise or shape traffic at very high usage levels. This is outside our control.
- You must not use the connection for unlawful purposes, and you must not resell access to the connection or operate it as a public or commercial internet service.
7. Care and use of the Equipment
You must take reasonable care of the Equipment and, in particular:
- keep it within New Zealand — the service is registered for NZ use and must not be taken overseas;
- protect it from immersion in water, rain, salt water, salt spray, and other moisture — the dish is weather-resistant, not waterproof, so it must always be sheltered from rain and never submerged, and keep the battery pack and power adapter dry at all times;
- secure it against wind, falling objects, vehicles, animals, and theft;
- use only the supplied power adapter and battery pack, or a power source that meets Starlink's published specifications;
- not open, disassemble, modify, or tamper with any part of the Equipment, including firmware or account settings;
- not permanently install the Equipment (no drilling, bolting, adhesives, or hard-wiring); and
- return it clean, dry, and packed in the original packaging.
8. Damage, loss, and theft
You are responsible for the Equipment from the time it is delivered to you until it is accepted by the courier for return. Fair wear and tear from normal, careful use is expected and is not charged. You must notify us within 24 hours if the Equipment is lost, stolen, or damaged (hello@connectedkiwi.com).
If the Equipment is lost or stolen, or damaged beyond fair wear and tear, you will be charged the cost of repair or replacement — this applies equally to loss and theft, even where you were not at fault. Charges are capped at the following amounts per item:
| Item | Maximum charge |
|---|---|
| Starlink Mini dish (incl. router) | NZ$700 |
| Li-ion battery pack | NZ$250 |
| Power adapter and cabling | NZ$60 |
| Carry case / packaging | NZ$40 |
These amounts are first deducted from the security bond; any balance is payable by you on demand. If stolen, you must also report the theft to the NZ Police and provide us with the report reference.
9. Delivery and return shipping
- We ship by tracked courier to any physical address in New Zealand. Couriers do not deliver or collect on Sundays; your booking dates are adjusted accordingly and shown before you pay.
- Allow approximately 2 days between booking and your rental start for delivery. If a delivery is delayed by the courier through no fault of yours, we will extend your rental or refund the affected days — your choice.
- Return shipping is included: use the pre-paid label and original packaging, and obtain a lodgement receipt or tracking confirmation as proof of dispatch.
10. Cancellations and changes
- 3 or more days before your rental start date: free cancellation — full refund.
- Less than 3 days before the start date, but before the Equipment has been dispatched: 50% refund of the rental fee; the shipping fee is refunded in full.
- After dispatch: no refund.
- Date changes are free and subject to availability — email us as early as possible.
- Weather, obstructed sky view at your location, or changes to your travel plans are not grounds for a refund once the Equipment has been dispatched.
11. Service disclaimer
Internet connectivity is provided over the Starlink satellite network, which is owned and operated by a third party (Space Exploration Technologies Corp.). While the Starlink Mini typically delivers 50–150 Mbps, we do not guarantee any particular speed, latency, coverage, or uninterrupted availability, and we are not liable for network outages, degradation, or Starlink service changes beyond our control. A clear, unobstructed view of the sky is required for the service to work.
No refunds or credits are given for Starlink network outages, degraded performance, or lack of coverage at your location — these are outside our control and are part of the risk you accept when renting satellite equipment.
12. Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you in connection with a rental is limited to the total rental and shipping fees you paid for that booking, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss (including loss of income, business, or data) arising from use of, or inability to use, the Equipment or the Starlink service.
Nothing in this Agreement limits any rights you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 that cannot lawfully be excluded. If you are renting for business purposes, you agree that the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 does not apply, as permitted by section 43 of that Act.
13. Privacy
We collect your name, contact details, delivery address, and payment information to process your booking, deliver and recover the Equipment, and meet our legal obligations. Payment card details are handled by our payment provider (Stripe) and are not stored by us. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and do not sell it to third parties.
14. General
- This Agreement is governed by New Zealand law, and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction over any dispute.
- If any part of this Agreement is found to be unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
- This Agreement, together with your booking confirmation, is the entire agreement between us for the rental.
