When the event has no internet, the event has a problem

Paddocks, beaches, school fields and carparks rarely have a connection you can rely on, and where there is mobile coverage a crowd can swamp it. That is how a stallholder ends up turning away card customers, or a tournament ends up scoring on paper. A dedicated satellite connection that only your team is using fixes that.

Who it's for

  • Markets and stalls — keep your EFTPOS machine and phone payments running at the farmers' market, craft fair or night market.
  • Sports days and tournaments — live scoring, online draws, ticket scanning and a livestream for the family who couldn't come.
  • Community events and school fairs — take card payments at the cake stall, run the raffle and keep the organisers' laptops online.
  • Festivals, pop-up shops and outdoor weddings — a ticket desk, a till, or a livestream of the ceremony for guests overseas.

How it works

  1. Book online, starting your rental 2 days before the event. No contract.
  2. We courier it to you anywhere in NZ by NZ Post Overnight, or you collect it free in Auckland for a same-day start (until 2pm) or a next-day start.
  3. Plug in the power bank, put the dish somewhere with a clear view of the sky, and join its Wi-Fi from the Starlink app or your device. The setup guide will get you going.
  4. Send it back with the pre-paid return label that's in the case.

Delivery: orders placed before 10am NZ time, Monday to Friday, post the same day and arrive the next day, between about 10am (urban) and 3pm (rural). We can't control the courier, so start your rental 2 days before the event.

What's in the kit

  • Starlink Mini dish with built-in Wi-Fi router
  • Power bank that runs the dish for about 4–5 hours
  • Wall charger and car charger
  • USB-C cable
  • Waterproof carry case with a pre-paid return label
  • Setup guide, plus WhatsApp, phone and email support

What it can and can't do

One Starlink Mini suits a stall, a club tent, a ticket desk, a scoring table or a small team: card machines, phones, laptops and a livestream. It is not meant to be public Wi-Fi for a crowd or for spectators. It needs a clear view of the sky, and under our rental agreement the dish needs shelter from rain, so a gazebo or marquee edge works well. Keep it out of direct sun, as it can overheat.

Pricing

$29 per day plus a $50 shipping fee (NZD), with free local pickup in Auckland for same-day starts (until 2pm) or next-day starts. A $500 security bond is held on your card and released when the dish and accessories are returned; under the rental agreement it can be charged for damage or loss. Running a weekly market? Book the dates you need, as often as you like.

Event internet FAQs

How many devices can connect at once?

One Starlink Mini comfortably runs a stall, a club tent, a ticket desk or a scoring table: a card machine, a few phones, a laptop or two and a livestream. It is not designed to be public Wi-Fi for a crowd, so please don't plan on offering it to spectators or customers.

Will it work in a field or a carpark?

Yes. It needs a clear view of the sky, not a mobile tower, so open fields, carparks, beaches and sports grounds are ideal. Tall trees, marquee roofs and buildings overhead get in the way, so put it somewhere open.

How long does the battery last?

The power bank in the kit runs the dish for about 4–5 hours. For a longer day, plug the dish into the wall or car charger (both are in the kit). You can keep using it while it charges.

Can I rent it for a weekend market every week?

Yes. Just book the dates you need, whether that is one Saturday or every weekend of the season. There is no contract.

What if mobile coverage is fine?

Then you may not need us. Events change that, though: a crowded ground can swamp the local tower so card machines and phones crawl, and many sites have no coverage at all. A dedicated connection that nobody else is sharing keeps your EFTPOS and ticketing working.

Will my EFTPOS machine work on it?

Most card machines that connect over Wi-Fi work on any internet connection, so join the dish's Wi-Fi like any other device. Check with your provider if your machine only uses its own SIM card or a specific network.

What if it rains?

Under the rental agreement the dish needs shelter from rain, so set it up at the open edge of your gazebo or marquee, or under an eave, where it stays dry but can still see open sky. Keep it out of direct sun too, as it can overheat; the same spot usually gives it shade.

When should I book, and how does delivery work?

Start your rental 2 days before the event: the dish arrives between about 10am and 3pm on your start date, and the spare day covers any courier delay we can't control. We courier it NZ-wide by NZ Post Overnight priority: orders placed before 10am NZ time Monday to Friday post the same day, and it arrives the next day, by about 10am in urban areas or 3pm in rural areas. For a same-day start (until 2pm) or a next-day start in Auckland, free local pickup is available. A pre-paid return label is in the case.

What about the security bond?

A $500 security bond is held on your card (a hold, not a payment) and released when the dish and accessories come back. Under the rental agreement it can be charged for damage or loss.
